Moving Items off DONE in Kanban Board WITHOUT assigning a release

The only way I seem to be able to get items (stories, bugs, tasks) to move off of the DONE column in the Kanban board is to assigned them a release and then close the release when it is done. While it works, it is confusing, because when we pull the list of items for the release, it has some stories and tasks that are NOT code changes and in the release - just research or other items.

If I do not assign them a fix, they seem to just sit in the DONE column on the board indefinitely making the sprint picture not clear.

By default that is how Kanban works. However, there is a sub-filter that can be used to age the done issue off the board. You will find this under board settings > General all the way at the bottom. If you need ideas on the filter you might search the Community here as this is an often discussed topic.
