Roadmap not showing child issues

I enabled Roadmap for one of the boards of one of my classical projects. I have many epics with a lot of sub-items but those sub-issues are not visible in the roadmap.

Under view, I enabled Progress to view the status of child issues but it did not help

When using the roadmap, it's possible to see the child issues linked to an Epic, so I'm not sure I understood what is not showing on your roadmap.

Here is how it should show:

When an Epic has child issues, it will show a > icon to expand and show the issues.

The Progress option is just to show how many tasks are "In progress" and "Done":

Please, let us know more details about what is not showing on your roadmap. If possible, send us a screenshot (just make sure to hide private information).

I was expecting it to behave exactly as you explained.

But here is what I got, I attach here an example:

Issue 117 is an Epic and a parent of issue 116. But I don't see it the way you explained.

Epic is not collapsable and no progress bar.

The issue 116 is a Linked issue and not a Child issue, that's why it doesn't appear on the roadmap.

You can create child issues by clicking on the icon :

I tried to click that icon under an epic and created an issue, the new issue is created (I can go to its URL separately) but it does not appear as a child, so still does not appear as a child issue under roadmap. Is it because I am working on a classical project, not a next gen?

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

On Classic projects, we can link issues from other projects to an Epic, but on the Roadmap, it will show only child issues from the same project.

Also, linked issues will not show on the roadmap, only child issues.

Can you please test creating a new child issue directly on the roadmap?

I just added roadmap on already running project but having same issue.

Even on same project, on Roadmap screen when you click on any Epic > it is not showing you correct list of tickets under it but on right side of same screen where small window of that Epic opens shows correct and all list of ticket in it. please see screen shot.

By the way it has nothing to do with closed issue. I have EPICs listed where it shows closed issues as well with correct number of tickets.

The Roadmap in Classic projects will only show child issues that were created on the same project. On Classic projects, we are able to link issues from other projects to Epics, but it won't appear on the Roadmap because the Roadmap is based on projects and not filters.

Here is an example of my test site where there are child issues from the project KANBAN, but on the Roadmap, it only shows issues from SCRUM that is the same project the Epic is part of.

I tested here on another project and I was able to check that, child issues that were done before enabling the Roadmap is not showing.

Can you please let me know if that's the same behavior on your site? Were those three tickets closed before you enabling the Roadmap?

Thanks Angelica for response, Well those 3 issues were closed before enabling roadmap. But I don't think this is the cause because there are many other EPICs with already closed tickets (before enabling roadmap ) but are visible under Roadmap. Find attached screen shot. This is another Epic which show complete list of tickets which were closed before enabling roadmap. This Epic/Roadmap showing correct list of tickets.

I am having the same issue as described on this thread. I have only enabled roadmaps as of today, but epics and child stories / sub-tasks / defects were created before today. I understand your above comment addressing this.

In this case, what can I do to resolve this?

Please note that all epics and child tasks are all within the same project. I have however created a separate Kanban board for them (where the roadmap I am struggling with also lives), still within the same project.

I also have this issue. Just activated Roadmap on a classic project. Some more info that might help troubleshooting is that when I try to create he child issue directly on the roadmap it says: "Your issue XX-XXX has been created but is not currently visible becuase it does not match your board filter."

It was a filter that was the issue. Changing the filter to show also issues solved this problem.

I remember that I tested that, but it has been a while and I don't know which project was the one I used.

When enabling the roadmap, it should show Epics and Child issues. Sub-tasks are not visible.

Can you please check on "View settings" if it's selected to show all Epics?

Have you tried to disable and enable the roadmap again?

Have you tested creating a new Epic and a child issue to check if it works?

I got the same issue.

I solve it by making sure that the "Epic link" field has the correct epic. For some reason this field was being left blank after the creation of the Stories or tasks.

For me, this is related to Components... somehow:

When I find an issue that is missing from the Roadmap, adding a specific component to that issue makes it appear in the Roadmap.

There are no filters active, yet child items of epics are only displayed if they contain a specific Component.

May have found it: items that appear in the Classic Roadmap go through the team's Filter Query.

I found a child item that did not appear in the roadmap and added that child item's Component to my team's Filter Query. Then the item appeared in the Roadmap. Removing the Component from the Filter Query makes the child item stop appearing in the Roadmap.

Your team's Filter Query is found in the General tab of your Team's settings page.

This does not affect Advanced Roadmaps.

Sub-tasks that are direct children of Epics don't appear in Advanced Roadmaps. Surprising, but at least that one is documented. However, converting the Sub-task to a Story doesn't appear to fix the issue. ie. the Story that used to be a Sub-task still doesn't appear in Advanced Roadmap.

Sub-tasks do appear in Classic Roadmaps.

I was having the same issue and I resolved it by following:

Click on Configure

then change the value from 30 to something higher. i chose 185 and it worked for me.

this resolved the issue for me.
