How do I automate an assignee from an initiative to an epic then to a story.

Question

In our company we want the BA to be the assignee from the highest Initiative level to the story level.

I am trying to automate this feature so setting it at the initiative level will trickle to the story level, but I am having no luck.

I've tried using the assign trigger and the change field trigger. I've tried using the branching in automation for epics and stories and still nothing happens.

I have even tried writing JQL language as in if statement in the automation ( childissuesof({$sourcekey}) ). but that doesnt work either. I am stck at this point and cant find any situations already posted like mine.

Also If I reconfigure the automation and ignore the initiative, for example issuing the assignee at the epic level and branch it to the stories, it will work. but from there I can't branch to parent.

Like this works...

but the other instance doesnt.

Here is a screenshot of one of attempts. The issue seems the same. No matter what I do, it doesn't seem to find the related issues downstream. When I look at the initiative ticket it clearly shows the epic under 'child issues' and the epic has the initiative in the parent link...
