Scripting limiting comment updates based on date

Using JIra Server 8.5.5

We wanted to open up Comments to allow users to edit their own comments but would like to limit the editing to only recent comments.  For example: A user may edit their own comments but only those created in the last month.

Has anyone done anything like this using scripting?

I'm afraid Jira does not have a feature to prevent old comments from being edited and I'm not aware of any plugins/scripts that might give you this possibility.

That being said, you can try one of the options below:

1. Although you can not restrict the comment update by time, you can do it based on the Status of the issue. In other words, you can configure properties is some workflow statuses to prevent comments from being edited when the issue gets transitioned to them (E.g: Closed status):
   Workflow Properties 
   Restrict editing of existing comments on closed issues 
   
   
2. You can develop your own script to achieve it. The documentation to get started with Atlassian development is the one below:
