Tasks linking across projects

We have multiple projects across our Jira account that each have their own boards. All of these projects and boards are independent of each other and need to remain this way as we sometimes add the client to the project.

What we have recently found is that when we are trying to link 2 tickets within a board, tickets from other projects and boards are visible.

I've seen many discussions around how to get different projects and tickets to link but how do I simply remove this functionality so we don't see other project tickets in my current project?

Hi Megan - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Tickets shown on board are controlled by the filter attached to the board. So if the filter does not show tickets from Project B, you will not see them on the board for Project A.

However, if there is a link between a ticket on Project A to a ticket on Project B, you can see that link. But if you click on the link, and then go to the board for that ticket, it will be the board for project B, not project A.

Now, if you do not want to be able to get to a ticket on Project B at all, you will need to control that with permissions in the Permission Scheme.

Simply decide who can see which projects by granting them access to the Browse Project permission in the permission scheme.

What if myself and another person are working across multiple projects but still don't want to see the tickets from Project B when dealing in Project A.

Is this possible through the permission scheme?

Yes, all of that is possible through the permission scheme. I would do it by adding yourselves to a particular project role under People on the project. Then your permission scheme will be based on a the project role.

Then when you don't want to see those issues, simply remove yourself from the project role under people on Project B.
