I am having issues with the resolution screen in the simplified workflow.

I am using the simplified workflow of just To, In Progress, Done. I have the resolution field visible on the below screens. However, anytime I change the issue to done, it defaults to a resolution of done and I can't edit the resolution to be one of the other options that are set-up. How do I fix this?

Be sure to check the transition to Done in your workflow to see if there is a Post Function there that is setting the resolution. That would overwrite whatever value you have on the screen.

By the way, what type of project is this? Classic Software? Next-gen?

Hello @JHall , this is not a best practice as there are many native functionalities in Jira that depend on the "Resolution" field. But if you really want to edit your "Resolution" field value then reopen your issue and it should allow you to edit resolution value.

This project is classic.

When I look at the Workflows, I don't see how/where to add a transition.

Poking around in other areas I found the screens page. I see that the Resolve Issue screen isn't assigned to my workflows - TORT: Software Simplified Workflow Scheme. (TORT is just the name of my board).

When an issue is marked as done, I want to be able to set the resolution as opposed to have it go to done by default. Right now, when I mark the issue as done, I am never prompted to set the resolution status. That would be the only reason for me to "edit" the resolution is when the wrong one is automatically set.

ah ok, you need to map the resolve issue screen to your workflow transition.

- goto project settings --> workflows --> Software Simplified Workflow for Project --> Edit

- choose "Done" transition -> click edit

- Select "Resolve Issue Screen" from the screen dropdown

- Publish the workflow

Now, whenever you move your issues to "done" status you will be prompted with "resolve issue" screen where you will be asked to enter a value for your "Resolution" field

@Sachinhas given you the right answer for editing a workflow and adding a screen to ask the person closing an issue to set the resolution.

But there is one other thing to be aware of - if your workflow is "simplified", then you should not do this. It will work, for a while, but if one of the board admins decides to change the board, it may clobber all your changes, potentially leaving the workflow in a state which breaks your data.

Simply put: do not edit simplified workflows.

Make a copy of your current Simplified Worfklow. Then follow Sachin's process above to attach the Resolve Issue screen to the transition to Done.

Hi Sachin,

Thank you! I was able to get the resolution screen to display once I select the done option. However, now when I select a Resolution other than done, when I save it changes the resolution to done instead of whatever I selected. Any thoughts on this?
