Repo size exceeding expected size

Hi All,

We are using a bitbucket cloud, we have a couple of repos with repo size in repo setting showing 750MB and 320MB(There are no big files uploaded) but in the local machine, the size of the repos are like 14MB and 8MB.

can anyone explain why in bitbucket settings it's showing that much?

Hi Manjunath, thanks for reaching out.

We have already explained to you why that happens, here and here.

Those sizes don't seem too large and are still far from the 2GB limitation, so I'd just wait until the automated garbage collection runs in the remote for the size to match your local. This said, if you don't want to wait, please run:

git count-objects -Hv

to see what's the size of your local repo. After tha,t we can run a git gc for you. The size of the repository is not the same as the size of its components combined, that's why it's important to run the above command
