How do I query against the attributes of a parent ticket?

Hi all, I'm so new here I just walked in the door.

My co is trying to filter items that need attention. We make extensive use of sub-tasks, however those are rarely more than a question and may not be filled out as thoroughly as the parent ticket.

The results we want to look at today are really about which version we're testing, sprint we're in, etc. but that just isn't listed on most of our sub-tasks. Yet those are where the work is that needs to be addressed.

I know there is a parent function, however I haven't been able to connect it properly in a query to make it useful (my attempts included using it like parent.fixversion = <whatever>).

If anyone has had any success with this sort of filtering, could you help me out?

Per your description, I understand you are trying to return child issues based in the values added to the parent fields. Is that correct?

Unfortunately, the JQL search of Jira application does not have a function to search based on parent fields, however, we understand how useful this functionality would be so we created the following feature request:

Create a JQL functionality to filter the sub-task for a field value of the parent issue

Feel free to vote and watch the suggestion to increase its priority and also receive notifications about any updates.

As a workaround, there are a few third-party apps in Atlassian Marketplace that provide you with this function. Here are some options:

JQL Search Extensions for Jira & reports

ScriptRunner for Jira

As described by Petter you need some plugins like Scriptrunner or JQL search extension. There might be others too but i used both ScriptRunner and JQL Search Extensions for Jira & reports.

Here is the example of JQL Search Extensions for Jira & reports , how you can get required results, i recently almost did the same so sharing with you might be helpful for you

Since you are in cloud version so you can achieve this by using subqueires.

By using JQL Search extension please follow the steps

Create a query , save it for example name is "issuesinfixversionabc"
```
fixversion = <whatever> 
```
Then use that query as below, it will get all sub tasks related your parent query
```
subTaskOfQuery="issuesinfixversionabc"
```

If you want to get parent tasks too in results then you can use the query as below

subTaskOfQuery="issuesinfixversionabc" or issuesInQuery="issuesinfixversionabc"

Are the add-ons like the JQL Booster Pack available to cloud accounts?

The specific add-on you mentioned (JQL Booster Pack) is only available for Jira Server, however, you got some other options as explained before.
