Is it possible to get automations to assign a jira issue to the author of a bitbucket commit?

I've been trying to set up some automations using the new DevOps automation triggers with Bitbucket and these have generally been working fine, but I can't seem to solve one particular issue. We occasionally have times where a developer will pick up an issue and start working on it and not assign it to themselves. It would be helpful if unassigned tickets would be assigned to the author of a commit when it's picked up by BitBucket. I can get the automation to trigger and my condition passes as expected but I can't figure how to make the assignment work. Is it possible to get the automation to pick up the author of the commit in BitBucket and assign the issue to them? If so, how do I do it?

I could not find that info listed in the documentation for the commit smart value.

Maybe all of the values are not listed, so you could try the REST API to pull the JSON for an issue you know has a commit, and then see if there is something you could use in the automation rule. Here's the documentation to get the issue info:

I'm trying to do the exact same thing. Unfortunately the automation is not getting the info about the commit author.

I guess the same applies for branch creation.

I would love to see this functionality to work, since it decreases the overhead for devs with Jira.

The same is definitely true for branch creation - I tried that too. It's a shame because in general I'm finding the ability to do these sorts of automations really useful, it would just be good to get some further information back from the DevOps triggers

I'm trying to do the same thing but with GitHub commits. I want to assign a Jira user to an issue using the commit author but I cannot access this as a field from the trigger. Developers sometimes forget to assign themselves to issues and this would be a great use case for Jira Automation if it could work.

I'm trying to do the same thing, this is basic automation...

The option "User who triggered the event" in the automation options (Assignee) doesn't work; neither the "Copy from trigger issue"; neither changing the "Actor" in the "Rule details" section: when you try to publish the rule it says "The selected trigger requires the actor to be set to a user".

I've tried any possible combination, no way to automate the Assignee... wow... I hope someone could finally say something.

2) Email received with "rule failed, check the audit log"...
