Newby: importing large Word doc with structure and footnotes

Question

New Confluence user here. I'm setting up a Confluence space as a mirror of a very large Word policy document, so that I can easily create links from Jira to individual policies and procedures. I successfully imported the source document, splitting it into multiple pages at the second header level. However, I have two questions.

First it appears that the importer handles footnotes by simply jamming the footnote text into the location of the footnote reference number, which results in a mess. Has anyone solved this in a (hopefully) automated fashion?

Second, has anyone implemented a way (macro?) of inserting a table of contents linking to the child pages for the current page? This would seem to be a really common pattern.

Hi Geoff, you may have solved this by now. I have two ideas, one tested, one not.

Option 1, on the child page, insert an Excerpt macro and put the TOC macro inside it. In the TOC parameters, check the "Absolute URL" checkbox. On the parent page, insert an Excerpt Include macro and specify the child page. This has worked for me.

Option 2, it may be possible to use the Page Properties and Page Properties Report macros to do this. On the child pages, insert a PP macro, and put the TOC w/absolute URLs in one of the fields. Then on the parent page, use the PPR macro to list all the TOC fields from all the child pages. I haven't tested this (yet) but it should work I think.

Let us know what you decided to do.

I don't have an answer for the footnotes conversion, though.

Just wanted to confirm when you meant "child pages" you were talking about pages within Confluence. Is that correct? If so, you could us the Children Display Macro on the Confluence parent page.
