Gitlab and JIRA issue sync

As a user, I would like to know Jira issues integartion iwth Gitlab issue, so that when I close my Jira issue, then my issue in Gitlab also get updated and closes issue. I need the sync between the issues. I do not want to use any other external app or tool to establish this sync. I would like to know through existing JIRA APIs can I achieve. Please support.

Hello @Meghana_H ,

I am not 100% sure this can be done since I've never tried it myself. However, assuming that if an issue is created in Jira will be updated in Jira and viceversa, something similar could be achieved by doing the following:

1. Create a custom field in Jira to store the Gitlab issue id, and viceversa, one in Gitlab to store the Jira issue key. 
2. In Jira you create 3 Webhooks that are triggered on issue create, update or deleted and that will call the Gitlab REST API endpoints to create, update and remove issues.

   • GitLab API authentication (you will have to pass the token as a URL parameter since you cannot set custom headers in Jira Webhooks)
   • Gitlab REST API - New Issue
   • Gitlab REST API - Edit Issue
3. On issue create, the Jira issue key will be recorded to the field created in step #1 in the newly created Gitlab issue.
4. In Gitlab you create 3 webhooks as well to call the Jira REST API endpoints to create, update and delete issues:

   • Jira Cloud REST API: Edit Issue
   • Jira Cloud REST API: Delete Issue
5. On issue create the Gitlab issue id will be copied to the field created in step #1

 

Also, I know this is not desired, but if nothing else works you might want to review the app  Sync Jira with GitLab available in our marketplace.
