Which field is used to determine the DUE DATE of a particular issue/request?

Hi,

Can anyone let me know which specific field is used to calculate the 'Due date' of a particular request?

I find the due date field to be optional. So in such cases, if the field is blank/not available, which field will determine the due date of the issue/request?

The due date field is used to define the final target for the resolution of an issue. Although you can add default values to Due dates using a workflow post function, It is not automatically set based on the value of other Jira fields or actions performed in the issue (like the created and updated fields), but it must be manually set with the time you estimate for the current issue resolution.

You can use the due date fields to configure reports and also search for issues that has already breached its due date like described in the documentation below:

Thanks, @Petter Gonçalves . So, in a case where the due date is not manually set, that indicates there is no final target for that particular issue. The due date value will be null in this case. Right?

Yes, that's correct. If you leave the Due date field empty, it will have a "none" (null) value, meaning the issue does not have a final target to be finished.
