Open Epic/Story/Task in dialog/full window instead of sidebar

Francois

Hi all,

I'm experimenting with the next-gen software projects in jira. One of the things I don't like is the sidebar opening when I click on an item in the roadmap/backlog. I want this to open a dialog window or to open it in a page. This provides more ease of work and is nicer to see what goes with what.

2 questions regarding this topic;

How can I conigure Jira to open the Story items in the backlog in a dialog or page window instead of the sidebar?
Is there a way to open a dialog window or page form within the sidebar view?

Thanks in advance, best regards,

Francois

Hello @Francois

Thank you for reaching out.

Indeed, the sidebar you are seeing when clicking at issues in the backlog of Next-gen projects is part of the new issue view lab feature, which is where the Next-gen projects were built.

We have the following feature request to allow the deactivation of this feature in Jira software boards (Including Next-gen), so the detail view would be displayed as a pop-up just like in Jira Core projects:

Implement an on/off checkbox to disable the board issue details lab feature for JSW boards

Feel free to vote and watch the suggestion to increase its priority and also receive notifications about any updates.

As a workaround, you can hold Command/Ctrl key and click in the issue key at the backlog, so the issue will be opened in a new tab of your current browser window.

Let us know if you have any questions.

The workaround doesn't seem to work.

@Petter Gonçalveswhile it's a nice view to have a quick overview of an issue, I agree with Francois that I'm missing the full page view. I am wondering why this view was dropped. At a minimum, it would be nice to resize the detail window to have more space.

@Julia Borkenhagen I had the same problem at first. After some experimentation, I found that you have to click very specifically on the issue *key*, not just anywhere on the issue line.

I can't speak for other setups, but with my macbook and chrome, I click the issue key/number with the command key held down. In the image below, I need to command-click on "R5C-1473" in the blue box. (the box is just a holdover of my command-clicking it earlier). This opened the full page view in a new tab for me.

I hope this helps!

If by any chance you reach to this item looking for opening items in your backlog without open issues in sidebar, you may want to watch https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-17842.
