Tempo API - get sum of worklogs

So I'm trying to build some basic analysis tool combining data from Jira and our finance tracker (Xero).

Basically I need to find a way to aggregate time spent in a large time periods by project(s). Using tempo API I first tried to get all worklogs for a date range, but it's very inefficient and due to the API limit, is not very useful. Is there a way to query this data using API more efficiently? To just return sum of time spent, following certain search criteria?

If you consider using apps, but not just API, you can try the Clerk Invoices Jira app. It helps generate invoices from Jira and Tempo worklogs and export them to Xero. Probably it will work for you and there will be no need to work with API directly.
