Cannot Create a Release

Lior Broshi

A User is defined in the 'developers' group which has Administration access to a specific project, yet he cannot create a release, Jira says:

"you must be a project administrator or a Jira administrator to release versions"

Why did I miss in the process?

Hi @Lior Broshi

A few things worth checking:

• Go to Project Settings > Permissions (on the left-hand side)
• Check if the Project Role "Developers" or the Group "Developers" has the Administer Projects permission - note, this is important as roles and groups are different and you want to ensure the right one is used

If yes, double-check that user has the right role (via Project Settings > People) or the right group (Jira Settings > User Management > Select User > Groups). You'll need Site Admin to the latter.

It's also worth trying to create releases from an alternate place - for example, have your user locate Project Settings (if he can't, he hasn't got Project Admin). Once in Project Settings go to Versions on the left-hand side and create from here.

If the above works, it might be you were trying to create releases from a board - and that board had multiple projects in its filter. In Cloud a board belongs to one "master" project even if the filter allows many, and that might not be the same project your user has admin in.

If this doesn't work, let us know
