Scrum board functionality VS Kanban board functionality?

Question

In the Scrum board it is possible to:

* create columns for each step of a workflow
* set WIP limits
* use the "Control Chart" report

In the Kanban board it is possible to:

* use a Backlog

So it looks like they are very similar. What functionality is unique to only one board (missing in the other)?

Scrum and kanban are frameworks of agile methodologies that are a set of ideas and principles that help us to make a shipping product. Atlassian considers the frameworks and implements them in JIRA.

Scrum teams commit to deliver a part of final products through intervals called sprint and it takes 2 to 4 weeks. So in Scrum boards, you can define sprints and this is unique to scrum boards.

Kanban visualizes work and limits Work in Progress to increase efficiency but you could use this feature on both boards.

Assuming you're using a Classic project in Jira Software Cloud....

In the Scrum board, you get:

* two agile reports with the Kanban Board (Cumulative Flow and Control Chart) all of the agile reports with Scrum boards.
* ability to change the estimation statistic.
* ability to use sprints (and parallel sprints, if you need them).

In the Kanban board (only), you get:

* A Subfilter for the board (see the screenshot in the answer from Anonymous user).
* Option to display epics on the left-hand side of the board in a panel that can be toggled on and off. (As per Scrum boards. The difference is that you have to physically switch on the backlog view and then the option to view Epics in the back log view).
