Time Tracking?

I am noticing that there doesn't seem to be any way to have a button to start time on an issue, but just a field that you have to enter time into.

Is there no button capability for this? Do my team members have to keep track of their own time and then manually enter it into the issue?

It is good question. I use tempo plugin and when i want to start work on an issue click on start tracker and then on the right down of your page a box pop up and start your time like stopwatch in your mobile.

I understand that this is a rather old question, nevertheless I decided to advise you (or anyone else with the similar needs) to check Everhour + Jira integration.

Everhour’s Jira time tracker will help you on several levels: from billing to time-off management, as well as everyday real-time time tracking.

You can start timer, add time, watch progress… all from the time tracking panel inside Jira.

Tracking time on Jira can be annoying switching tabs, so we created a free add-on called Timkee to simplify the process for macOS. Easily your team can track all their tickets using the Mac statusbar without the need to track manually on a ticket.

When used in combination with Tempo, Timkee automatically syncs all time logs, streamlining the creation of reports.
