Cannot copy/paste images into pages anymore.

We seem to have lost the abiliy to copy/paste images into pages as of 2019-09-19. Is this an issue with the new editor ting ?

* Creating a new page and pasting an image-> nothing happens.

* going /files and selecting "Files and Images" -> nothing happens.

* Documentet at: https://confluence.atlassian.com/confcloud/display-files-and-images-724765104.html , however Insert -> Files menu is missing

* Going to existing older pages (likely created by old editor), all this works fine.

(Tested with latest Chrome and Firefox)

Help, what's going on ?

Thanks for pointing that out. Our documentation about files and images for Cloud does indeed point to the old experience we had. This new experience (The Fabric Editor) is still being rolled out. So it is not present for 100% of our users yet!

Changes to Confluence Editor release

One of such changes was the file upload interaction. We are fully capable of file upload within Fabric. There is, however, a different button for us to look for.

Here is how:

Go to the desired page

Click the “picture” button in the toolbar

Select from recent files or Upload a file

Now, the copy-and-paste behaviour was readily replicable in my instance. What I got to do to work around it was to use the drag and drop method. This worked like a charm on my side. Would it be possible for you to try it out, Nils?

Also, could you clarify if the copy-and-paste of images used to work in the new editor or if you are facing the issue since you started using it?

We recently put fixes in for the copy and paste experience.

We've captured most use cases. Hopefully this should be working better for you now.

We'll be looking at some remaining use cases and edge cases related to copy and paste soon.

I have exactly the same problem with inserting an image.

The Images icon does not appear in the toolbar, nor in the Insert menu.

Copy and paste does not work.

Drag and drop does not work.

Typing /File displays the Files and Images menu, but clicking it does nothing.

Markup such as ![Alt text](file:///C:\temp\a.jpg "Optional title") does not work.

Any Suggestions?

@Owen Wallis @Diego Reviving this, as I have team members telling me that they don't have image paste capability, or even have the "Files & Images" icon on their toolbar. As a workaround, they have to engage others to edit the page and insert the image. Where is this even a setting within Confluence? Why would some people have specific edit capabilities, where others wouldn't?

Our IT person figured it out. It had to do with "Space Permissions". Once he revised my "space permissions", I then got the Image icon in my toolbar, and I can now copy and paste too. Here is more info:

Hello @Owen Wallis according to your post from 11/18/19, copy and pasting images directly into pages in Confluence is possible in certain use cases but when I review Atlassian support documentation, I can't find any mention of it. The only method described to insert images onto Confluence pages is to use the file insert feature. The file insert feature works flawlessly but is a several-step process. I have used the copy and paste method myself and it seems to work but I'm unsure whether there is a drawback to doing it, e.g., are the images subject to breaking? My questions: is copy and paste a supported method and are there any limitations or drawbacks? Thank you in advance!

Hi @Josef Zeigler sorry for the slow response. I'll talk to our team here to get something official added to the documentation.

But for a quick response yes copy and paste is supported - most of the time.

I don't believe copy and paste works across different instances (i.e. if you tried to copy and paste from josef.atlassian.com to zeigler.atlassian.com it would not work). I don't think it works from Server/DC to Cloud.

But if you are copying and pasting from Cloud to cloud (i.e. one page on the same instance to another) it should work fine.

There shouldn't be a disadvantage, the only thing to note is a copy forks the image rather than referencing the original.
