One product backlog, multiple team backlogs

Hi all,

I'm looking to setup a product backlog, for all users stories being created and planned. Ideally I'd like to be able to view the stories grouped under the epics they relate to.

I then have multiple development teams, some kanban and some scrum. Ideally I want to move stories into these different teams for development. Track team metrics. But also be able to view the items in the product backlog and report at the product backlog level on progress towards completion of epics and release goals.

I can see it is easy to setup multiple boards, but it doesnt seem easy to have the prodcut backlog view of all this or to create a hierarchy in the view based on Epics.

All this used to come out of the box with TFS, this is my first time using JIRA so hopefully its just my lack of experience configuring. Any ideas much appreciated.

Hi Gez - Welcome to the Community!

You might consider creating a board that uses an underlying filter that includes all of the projects you want grouped together. Then you can order the Backlog across all of issues. The problem will be that you cannot do a "grouping" by Epic per se.

That's a good question. You might want to experiment with it and see. Maybe start with Epic Link.

@John Funk which filter you are referring to capture this above requirement available by default in JIRA ?

I think that its creating a custom filter. I was frustrated with JIRA for not having certain things out of the box but now I am getting to grips with the key aspects of customising it I am understanding the flexibility and power of it more.

It's just a filter you create for what you want to see - for example, Project = XYZ or Project in (123, XYZ, ABC), etc.
