Having a link that always points to the most recent page

Question

Hi guys,

within Confluence I have space with a page called "Meeting Minutes". This page has many sub pages. One sub-page for a meeting.

It annoys me that I always have to click on "Meeting Minutes" and then select the most recent page. I would like to have a browser bookmark that always points to the newest subpage

Like

* Meeting Minutes* Meeting 1
* Meeting 2
* Meeting 3
* Meeting 4
* Meeting 5

The bookmark would always point to the most recent (in this case Meeting 5) without changing the bookmark every week to the most recent one.

Is this possible?

I'd create a page titled "Meeting Notes".  On that page I'd have a panel with the most recent meeting's date, and then the notes from the meeting.  When there's a new meeting I would edit that page and move the last meeting's notes, either to an archive section on that same page (maybe behind an Expand macro), or to a new child page titled "Meeting Notes XX/XX/XX".  This would only take a few minutes to do depending on what method your prefer.

The bigger question is how do your end users prefer to access this content?  Is it too cumbersome for them to navigate the tree structure to find the notes they want?  Or if all they want to do is access the latest meeting's notes by clicking on the same link each week it would probably be easier to just change that link to point to the newest page.

Hi Jared,

could you detail out your idea with the static page and showing the most recent meeting notes?

Jared Brenner · Answer

Hi Julian,

You may want to consider the Page Tree macro.  It will display a page's child pages.  You can set the property to display those pages by creation date, so the most recent one will always be at the top.

Another option to consider is having a static page for the most recent meeting notes, then creating a new page for those once there's a new meeting.  That way you'll have the same URL for linking purposes.

Good luck!
