A handful of users were deactivated but we are unsure how or why this happened. Are there any logs we can check?

Thank you that helps alot. I see the disablements but Author just shows "JIRA". Any idea what that means?
I am not sure. If you don't find a reference in the Community you might check with Atlassian Support.
A log entry showing it was performed by JIRA means it was an automated or system process.
