can a jira item be changed from a 'Story' to a 'Task'?

I can see that a Story can be converted to a Sub Task. But can it be converted from a Story to a Task?

Hello @Mona Nicolas 

The option shown by @Ajay _view26_ will be available only if that work type is available in the Space and if the original work type's workflow is also used by the work type you want to select.

If you have the specified work type in your project but don't see it when you click the icon then you will need to look for the Move option to move" the issue from one type to another.

A story can indeed be converted into a Task. Can you please check the Project Settings and make sure the Work-Item types are properly configured and available?

If so, you should be able to switch the type as shown below
