Sidebar > Add people is broken

When myself (site admin) or any space admins try to add people using the Sidebar > Add People, they begin to type a name and the window then disappears.  Space settings > People > Add people works fine.  It's just the side bar adding of people that doesn't work and it's not a permissions issue.

I looked for open bugs on it and don't see anything.  Anyone else seeing this issue with Jira Cloud too?

What type of space is this? Team-managed? Company-managed? And which other type? Software? Business? JSM?

Have you tried to go into the Space Settings then click on Access and then People and add there?

Hi,

This behavior is usually caused by a UI/browser issue rather than permissions (especially since adding people via Space Settings works). The sidebar dialog closing while typing often points to a script conflict or page rendering problem.

You can try the following checks:

• Clear browser cache/cookies or try an incognito/private window

• Disable browser extensions (especially blockers, password managers, or UI modifiers)

• Test in another browser or device

• Check if multiple users see the same issue (rules out local problem)

• Zoom out to 100% and ensure no page scaling issues

• Check Atlassian Status for any UI incidents

If it happens for all admins across browsers, it’s likely a product bug affecting that UI component. In that case, raise a support ticket with Atlassian and include screenshots and browser console logs.

Since the Space Settings path works, you can use it as a workaround until the sidebar function is fixed.
