Jira search keeps suggesting searches that it cannot actually perform

I keep getting suggested searches that would be useful to get the results of, but frequently these simple suggested searches fail to return any results.

Both of these searches should return results - I do have open tickets (both created and assigned) and I have tickets that are high priority as well. 

Jira should either make these searches work, or stop suggesting searches that aren't going to work.

Totally agree with you. Unfortunately you can't disable it. I would suggest you to raise support ticket on https://support.atlassian.com. Atlassian should be aware about it and fix this.
