Jira Epic Template

Michelle Mina July 15, 2022

Hi -

We have Jira Cloud Base and I wanted to know how we can determine if the feature to create a reusable Jira Epic (template) is part of our account?

I'm looking to create a reusable Jira Epic template with sub-tasks for implementation projects.

Thanks,

Michelle

Hello @Michelle Mina

It's Aleksandra from Deviniti, the vendor of the Issue Templates for Jira app.

If you're looking for templates functionality that would allow you to populate a set of tasks autmatically from template, I encourage you to give our app a try. In short, the app not only allows to copy over various fields' values from template, but also create more complex structures with just few clicks that may include Epics, Stories, Tasks with Sub-tasks, and any additional issue links.

The app is currently available for all hosting options including Jira Server/DC and Cloud. Hopefully you will find it useful!

Cheers,
Aleksandra

Hello @Michelle Mina ! Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

If, by your question, you're wondering if you can set up a template so that for every new Epic, it also creates a number of sub-tasks, the answer is it's not available for Out-of-the-box Jira.

You may have some luck on the Atlassian Marketplace finding a 3rd-party app that helps you do this.

Not every new Epic but a epic template that's reusable that would contain the same number of sub tickets

Yes, that's still something you'd have to get with an Atlassian Marketplace app.

Here's a link with "Issue templates" as the query: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/search?query=issue%20template

Welcome to the community, @Michelle Mina

I am Marlene from codefortynine.

Another option to work with template Epics, is our Jira cloud app Deep Clone for Jira.

  • Simply create your template Epic (including child issues)
  • Use the Deep Clone Epic/Tree Clone feature to clone (and move) the complete issue hierarchy
