Incoming Mail, Mail Handlers and HTML emails

How do I get jira to make sure that it formats an incoming email via a mail handler so that it formats a HTML email properly to the Description wiki markup format?

At the moment, the email is shown as if it was plain text, and it basically make the emails really hard to read.

Examples below, issue after it is created from a mail handler, and the original HTML email

Hi @Tristan Leask

What mail handler are you using, default Jira or an app?

It can also be that the original email is sent as text from the origin.

Im using the default mail handlers.  I have not installed an addon to process these.  I guess thats my problem then.

@Tristan Leask

Jira don't have proper native HTML rendering option. Because mainly are not designed for Communication but internal work management.

JSM have. If that's must have for you then without add-on can be hard.

Hi @Tristan Leask

The native email handler does not support HTML, only plain text.

The most robust solution in the Atlassian ecosystem for HTML email formatting is the Email This Issue | Atlassian Marketplace app. It includes a proper mail handler that:

  • Parses HTML emails and converts them to Jira wiki markup / Atlassian Document Format (ADF)
  • Preserves formatting like bold, lists, tables, and images
  • Handles inline images and attachments correctly

Hope this helps!
