My team is constantly running into delays because we depend on other teams to complete certain tasks, and keeping track of these dependencies in Jira is getting messy. Sometimes, things get stuck because one team doesn’t realize how their work affects another, and by the time we catch it, we’re already behind schedule. How can I manage cross-team dependencies more effectively in Jira?

I’ve had this exact issue before, and the key to managing cross-team dependencies in Jira is visibility and communication.

The first thing I recommend to do is make sure issue linking is being used correctly because every task that relies on another team’s work should have a clear dependency set up.

I find that this makes it much easier to see what’s holding things up.

To take it a step further, I also would advise check out use Advanced Roadmaps to get a high-level view of how different teams’ work connects.

Currently I use this to map out dependencies across multiple projects, shift priorities as needed, and adjust timelines before they become a problem.

But the typical team dynamics works wonders  I’ve currently schedule short 15min syncs for tracking dependencies keeps everyone aligned and avoids last-minute surprises.
