How can I automate the updating of a value in a custom field, when the status changes?

When the status of an issue is changed to done I would like the value in a custom field called "units", to be automatically updated to 100. Is this possible?

Welcome to the community.  Yes this is possible.

You can do it via post-functions in the workflow or jira automation.

For Jira Automation:

- Trigger: Issue Transitioned to Done -> https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/automation-triggers/

- Action: Edit Issue  -> https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/automation-actions/
