Field Configuration description editing missing after migration to Field Schemes

Summary

Since our Jira Cloud site was migrated to the new Field Schemes experience, I can no longer find the option to edit individual field descriptions within a specific Field Configuration. This feature was previously available and is still documented in the official Atlassian support article (Create or edit a field configuration | Atlassian Support).

What I used to be able to do

  • Navigate to Settings → Issues → Field Configurations

  • Select a specific Field Configuration

  • Click the Edit icon on a field's row to update the field's description scoped to that configuration only

  • Use wiki markup to format the description (bold, bullet points, tables, etc.)

What I see now

  • The Field Configurations menu item is no longer visible in Settings → Work Items → Fields

  • Only Field configuration schemes is available

  • Inside the scheme, there is no way to drill into an individual Field Configuration to edit field descriptions

  • The wiki markup / rich text formatting option for descriptions also appears to be gone

Impact

We rely on per-configuration field descriptions to provide context-specific guidance to users in different projects. Without this, we cannot customize field descriptions per project scope, and any changes would affect all projects globally.

Environment

  • Jira Cloud (migrated to new Field Schemes UI)

  • Previously using a custom Field Configuration Scheme with a dedicated Field Configuration

Questions

  1. Is the per-field description editing still available somewhere in the new Field Schemes UI?

  2. If not, is this a known gap during the migration rollout? Is there a timeline for when it will be restored?

  3. Is there a Feature Request I can vote on for this?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
