CSV import parent-child relation when migrating to new account

ray.geroski December 11, 2024

I am in the process of migrating issues from a project in one Jira account to a project in a new Jira account. I've exported the issues from the old account, pulling the columns required for the destination project. Some of the issues in the export are sub-tasks linked to a parent issue. The linkage exists between the Issue ID and the Parent ID columns. Since I'm importing into an entirely different account, I assume ID values are auto-incremented in the database.

So the question is, how can I preserve the parent-child relationship when importing these issues into an existing project in a new account? Can I import Issue ID and Parent ID column values?

Hi @ray.geroski , Welcome to the community.

This has been discussed a number of times in the community. You actually will find a link to a similar question in the side bar under related content, e,g. CSV-import-parent-child-relation . Let me know if that post doesn't address your question. There are other post you could explore as well using the search bar in the menu bar above.

The linked q&a doesn't necessarily address the core question. I can understand how parent ID column maps to the issue ID of the parent. The question is whether it matters what these values are if they have been exported from one account to be imported into another. Will I run into a potential issue where the issue IDs may already exist?
