We want to hear from you - seeking Jira Site admins for two research studies

Hello!

I'm Eddie, a designer on Jira. Myself and another Designer (Mark -- not pictured here) are running some studies on the admin configuration and setup screens in Jira Cloud, and we want to hear from you!

For both studies, we're seeking participants who administer Jira above the project-level which is to say that you do things like:

  • set up ways of working to scale across multiple teams, departments, or the whole organization

  • make changes to configurations that affect multiple projects (e.g. - schemes)
  • define and/or perform data cleanup and maintenance actions
  • inform policies and procedures related to work processes and reporting in your organization

Study #1 - Design testing

The first study is testing experiences in Jira to help guide our efforts to simplify it for our administrators.

In a 60-minute video call, you'll be given a test account and asked to perform 5 tasks, giving feedback on the experience.

The main requirement for this study is that you configure and manage processes for multiple teams within an organization of more than 500 people.

To join this study, fill out this survey.

Study #2 - Understanding how admins use Jira

The second study is a conversation with administrators about how their site(s) is/are set up, and how they use the functionality and tooling that exists today.

In a 60-minute video call, participants will be asked to share their screen and walk us through sites they administer to help us understand the problems current administrators face. We'll ask questions about how you've configured your site at scale for a large number of users and how that aligns to the needs of your organization.

For this one, we're mainly interested in talking to Jira Enterprise and Premium admins, though those using large Standard sites are also welcome to apply. And while not required, there's bonus points available for those in industries subject to external regulation (such as banking or insurance).

We understand that this sharing of information might concern some of our more privacy-minded users; to that end, Atlassian takes data protection very seriously and complies with all GDPR regulations. All information collected will be anonymized before being shared with other design teams and is stored on platforms with 2FA and SSO restrictions. As part of the disclosure agreement, you'll also receive information about how request Atlassian delete your data, to which Atlassian is required to comply.

To join the study, fill out this survey.

Hopefully, we'll chat soon :)

Eddie

Edit (April 7th): I've updated the surveys so that you don't need to create a UserInterviews account to join. Again: my apologies to those who were caught out by this, and I hope it doesn't deter you from signing up.

Hi,

With this tool you opted out complete countries from participating. When I try to register: "There were errors sending your phone verification code: User Interviews does not yet support users in your country." - so it's impossible to register from here.

And by the way it asks for ridiculous questions like household income - which I would not provide to an unknown 3rd party to participate in your admin survey...

why only sites with over 500 users?  a premium site with 400 users experience the same pain points with the current over engineered UX

but having read the comment from Gergely re household income...if that's a question on your survey then I wouldn't be signing up anyway

Hi,

I would really like to participate, however when I went to sign up I was requested to provide very personal answers such as birthdate, sex, ethnicity, marital status, household income.  I'm not comfortable sharing that information just for the purposes of participating in a research study for Atlassian Site admins.  I have participated in several other research opportunities with Jira product team and there questions are based on our use of Atlassian product, subscription type, # of employees, company industry.

If I could bypass all the personal questions, would be happy to sign up.

I'm interested, but after seeing others mention that giving household income is required and needing to agree to userinterview.com's terms of service, I'll pass. You may contact me directly if you'd like to interview me.

Hi,
Count me in as another who has participated in the past and is happy to do so, but not when I have to provide personal information.  This is the second request for org or admin interviews which is using this site to gather personal information.   Why has Atlassian switched to this?

IMHO... happy to forego any gift card.  Enjoyed all of my past interviews with members of the Atlassian team members.

Yup, I also bailed when the questions got intrusive and irrelevant to my experience as a Jira Admin.

@Eddie Meardon have you setup the survey correctly?  Seeing some of the comments above I clicked the link myself and I have NEVER needed to create an account with userinterviews in the past.

I agree with others that the level of personal details being requested/required is raising a ton of red flags.

Thanks!

I'm interested, but do not see why needing to add personal information is needed to sign up for these studies, so unless this change I will pass like everyone else...

With the others, hard no on these personal questions!

As with the others here, I'm not impressed with your new interview provider 'User Interviews'. To make an account with them requires providing intrusive personal information. I'm puzzled by the paragraph mentioning privacy and that it's taken seriously, while using this provider for your interviews.

I understand their business model is to create a catalogue of people to connect to their client companies, but the level of detail required is irrelevant to Atlassian studies, and that's all I'm interested in participating in AND all I'm allowed to per our company research policies.

I've viewed Atlassian's model of developing to be one of the best. User research is at the core of most of what you do and feedback is readily taken. Our company has ourselves written business cases to support changes (eg cascading field support in Proforma) and are keen to continue doing so. However, not with this provider attached. Please reconsider the impact here.

Hello all;

First of all, I want to offer my deepest apologies to this group. The behavior that you all mentioned wasn't supposed to happen and was the result of me misconfiguring something in UserInterviews. Normally, we don't ask that much information, and I am really sorry I didn't catch this before it went live. Atlassian values the privacy of our users, especially those who willingly participate in studies like this one, so I do appreciate you all bringing this to my attention.

I've updated the links above so that you do not need to make a UserInterviews account to join the study. This should be more in line with the usual testing experience and not nearly as invasive. Name and email should be all that's required, then into the screener that we intended you to see.

Again: I'm really sorry about this mix up, and I hope it doesn't deter you from joining.

next time either tag everyone who's taken the time to make a response up to that point, or tag no-one - seriously poor manners!
