📣 NEW for custom onboarding in Jira: non-admins can now create & edit content

We’re excited to announce that we’re releasing the ability for non-admins to create and edit content for custom onboarding in Jira Cloud - domain experts will now be able to craft content for new joiners in your organization. As a reminder, custom onboarding is available in Jira Premium and Enterprise plans.

What's new?

With this release we’re introducing a new global permission - manage custom onboarding. This lets Jira admins grant specific user groups access to the custom onboarding feature without additional admin privileges.

Key highlights:

• Let domain experts own onboarding content: Marketers can create onboarding for marketers, designers for designers, and so on - without needing Jira admin rights.

• Speed and scale: Reduce bottlenecks on admins and keep onboarding content fresh as teams evolve.

• Governed access: Admins stay in control with group-based permissions which can be changed at any time.

How to get started

For Jira admins:

• Navigate to Settings (⚙️) > Jira Apps (formerly Products). Select Custom onboarding, and then Manage permissions. From here you can select which user groups to grant access to, and you can link out directly to group management if you need to create groups or make any updates to membership. You can also manage these permissions from the centralised global permissions page.

For non-admins:

• Once you’ve been granted the manage custom onboarding permission, navigate to Settings (⚙️) > Custom onboarding.

What other admin settings do users with the manage custom onboarding permission get?

None. This new permission strictly grants access only to the custom onboarding feature.

Do only users with the manage custom onboarding permission have access to custom onboarding?

No. All users with the administer Jira permission will always have access to custom onboarding. The manage custom onboarding permission grants additional users access.

Will users with the manage custom onboarding permission have access to all custom onboarding content and functionality?

Yes. Any user with permission to access custom onboarding will be able to access all of the onboarding content and functionality. The only thing they will not have access to is permissions management - this will only be available to Jira admins.

When will this feature be rolled out?

Please check your release tracks. The new permission will be available to all continuous release customers by mid-November. Bundled release customers will get access a month later in December.
