Need assistance tracking cycles in a growing Team-managed project

Question

I am using a Team-managed project, which is growing in terms of tickets and features. We have a scenario where we want to track cycle time similar to what we have with Company-managed projects. Can anyone help me achieve this with a Team-managed project? Moving everything to Company-managed projects requires quite a bit of manual effort and we lose data to improve.

Hi @snehil.mishra,

I guess you use the Control Chart report of Jira in your company-managed projects. Unfortunately that report is not available on team-managed projects.

If you are open to the idea of using an app, our Great Gadgets app offers a Control Chart gadget that covers that Jira report. It has the great advantage of working on any type of project and it is much more configurable, letting you to measure cycle time, lead time or any segments of the workflow.

The gadget has a Data tab with a detailed report showing the individual issue and their cycle time.

The Control Chart is available only in Company Managed Software projects at this time.

Here is the change request to add the report to Team Managed projects. You can vote and comment on it. https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-20651

For Team-managed project reporting, you may want to explore additional add-ons available on the Atlassian Marketplace. Try out Time in Status add-on, which tracks the time for tickets across all statuses, not just closed or resolved ones.

To do this just:

* Choose Time in Status report 
* Sort by Project or Assignee, JQL, Label etc. 
* Get your Cycle Time Report

For that I can suggest you a marketplace app which will give you ready-to-go reports.  Timepiece - Time in Status for Jira ,the oldest and the most comprehensive "Time in Status" app in Atlassian Marketplace, which is developed by my team at OBSS, has a report type that will meet your need.  I've seen that you're on the Jira cloud and on a free plan, so the app is free in that case too.

Timepiece mainly allows you to see how much time each issue spent on each status. The app works both for company and team managed projects.

Status Duration report (please see the screenshot above) which shows how much time each issue spent on each status. You can combine the time for multiple statuses to get metrics like Cycle Time, Issue Age, Lead Time, Resolution Time etc.

For all numeric report types, you can calculate averages and sums of those durations grouped by the issue fields you select. For example total cycle time per project and created month

The app calculates its reports using already existing Jira issue histories so when you install the app, you don't need to add anything to your issue workflows and you can get reports on your past issues as well. Timepiece reports can be accessed through its own reporting page, dashboard gadgets, and issue view screen tabs.
