Atlassian Excel Plug-in

Prashant.shastri@centurylink.com March 16, 2020

I am using Excel Plug-in from Microsoft Marketplace, in the list of available fields, I selected Linked Issues, it gives me the Issue Key but not the type of dependencies like Blocked By, Implemented By, etc...which field to select or how can I get the type of dependency for the linked Issues?

Thanks

Prashant

Hello Prashant.shastri@centurylink.com ,

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

If I search our marketplace for Excel and Jira I get around 100 results, so I am not sure which add-on you are referring to:

Can you kindly let us know which one is installed on your side?

I am asking this because, looking at similar threads, this can be a bug with the app you are currently using and you might have to go to contact their support:

Cheers,
Dario

Dario,

Thanks for the pointers. I am using the Atlassian Excel Plug-in App

I think the pointer you gave are probably plug-ins from other vendors.

Thanks

Prashant

Hello Prashant.shastri@centurylink.com ,

Thanks for clarifying.

If that's the official Atlassian add-on then there are chances this is a bug since, even if the same behavior is experienced in the UI (searching for issues), then everything works as expected when exporting to CSV:

  • Run a search on your site and show the "issue link" field (e.g. go to https://YOUR-SITE.atlassian.net/issues/?jql=order%20by%20created%20DESC and customize the returned fields to show the issue links one)
  • See that only the issue key is displayed
  • Export the results to CSV.
  • See that you get different columns for different kind of issue links. Specifically:
Outward issue link (Blocks),Outward issue link (Cloners),Outward issue link (Problem/Incident),Outward issue link (Problem/Incident),Outward issue link (Problem/Incident),Outward issue link (Relates),Outward issue link (Relates)

I have contacted the team supporting the Atlassian Excel app asking if this is something they already know and/or if there is anything in their roadmap related to this issue. If not, I will proceed opening a bug request for this issue.

I will let you know as soon as I will get a reply on this.

Cheers,
Dario

Can you kindly provide a screenshot of what you get when you export the field "issue links" to Excel?

Also, as a temporary workaround you could use the export to CSV functionality and open the csv file with Excel. Not sure if this would be a viable option for you.

This is how it looks when I export the issue results to CSV and I open the file with LibreOffice (I don't have Excel since I am on Linux):

One last thing, I have created the below bug ticket to have this issue fixed:

Dario,,

Thanks for creating the ticket...I have been using the JQL reports extract as a workaround you said earlier for a while but the challenge is as people add / remove the Linked Issue types the columns of the reports are dynamically increased or decreased. Anyway that's another issue. The Atlassian plug-in is very handy but I don't see Link-Type attribute to select from the list of fields available.

If they can expose more fields that will be awesome.

Thanks once again for all your help
