💡New enhancements to Change Calendar in Jira Service Management

Hi Community!

We’re excited to announce the launch of two highly requested features in Jira Service Management Change Calendar. These updates are designed to help IT and change management teams plan, communicate, and enforce change policies more effectively. Read on to learn more about the latest enhancements!

What's new

1️⃣ Block Changes During Freeze/Maintenance Windows

Many organizations have strict policies to prevent changes during designated Freeze or Maintenance windows. Until now, enforcing these policies in JSM required manual oversight. With our latest update, project admins can now enforce restrictions directly in JSM—at both the project and service/asset level.

What does this mean for you?
No more accidental changes during critical windows! Admins can configure the calendar to automatically block change requests, ensuring compliance and reducing risk.

2️⃣ Enhancing export ownership management for site admins

Earlier this year, we introduced external calendar export for change calendar. In this latest update, we’re making some enhancements to calendar export to address common challenges faced by site admins. Now, if the original export link owner leaves the project or company, alternate users can now take ownership, ensuring continuity.

Ready to deploy changes more effectively? Explore the new improvements to the Change Calendar and let us know what you think in the comments below!

Looks nice on paper but I’ll need to test it.

can you configure it to allow Urgent changes to bypass the freeze windows?

Looks neat, but being restricted to the built in, and severely limiting, Services Assets schema is really a showstopper for us.

We need much more information about services than what the built in schema offers, so our options are to have every service twice or just not use the features that rely on the Services schema.

But it's nice to see change management get some tweaks none the less.

Hi @Rune Rasmussen Thanks. You can also use non-service Asset schema in change management through Assets custom field. Have you checked this post? We have also added assets custom field support in Maintenance, and Freeze windows.

@Pier-Olivier Tremblay Not yet. At present it's All / None, but we'll explore this feedback. Thanks.

@Prithwish Basu I was playing around with it yesterday, and did see that we can connect custom Assets Fields to change/freeze windows, but I can't see any way of then selecting actual objects from that field.

So the freeze window will just apply to all objects in our schema.
Then we would either have to create a schema for each service or restrict all changes to all services.

But with the built in Services schema and the built in field we can select the individual services/objects for the freeze window.

So technically yes we can add custom fields, but realistically it is useless outside the most simple setups.
Unless there is something I'm not seeing in the documentation, blog posts, and UI.

Why can't I see videos? It says "Due to the privacy settings for this video, it cannot be played here at this time."

I don't see Change Calendar section in our Operation feature. Is this only for premium/enterprise plans?

Same from my side too, I can't find Change Calendar section in the Operation feature. And we have premium plan. Perhaps this is not available for all customers yet..?
