Versions record for databases

Question

In the new database features, whenever I update the database it doesn't recognize it as a new version and therefore there is no version history.

The only solution I found for this is to have the DB inside a page, go to edit mode and change the DB from there which make the process cumbersome.

Does anyone come up with a better solution to keep track of changes in the DB?

Having at least a manual snapshot from time to time would be essential for tracking changes and establishing baselines.

An export plugin completely disrupted my database embedded in a page, and I had to restore it manually, record by record.

It is nice to have different kind of views and other eye candy, but it is essential for many companies to track changes.

As I just tried this workaround and it only records changes of the page and not changes in the database tables.

Version history is essential for the real use so at least in our company we cannot take it in use  for now. It's a shame bacause othewise it's a great tool.
