Unable to edit Confluence macros — only Delete option visible in edit

I just checked two of our sites: in both cases, I can see the "Edit" button below the Jira Data Center macro.

This sounds like a permissions or editor-mode issue rather than a macro problem itself. Have you checked whether the same macros can be edited by another user on the page?

Both the charts macro (except jira dc one) you mentioned are from external app, could you verify whether the app is ok and only it's macros are impacted?

What about other simple confluence built in macros?

Are other users also face the same issue in your site?

Just one note - from what I can see you're nesting macros. Pivot Table seems to be within a specific container (maybe expand or something like that).

If you click on "Pivot Table" text, can you see an edit button then?

Hello @Akhila RAMANAN , one detail changes the check order: two of the three macros you named (Chart from Table, Pivot Table) are Marketplace app macros, and the Jira macro is the native one. An app macro's Edit control is rendered by the app, while Delete is rendered by the editor. So when the app is disabled, unlicensed, or its subscription has lapsed, the editor still lets you delete the placeholder but the Edit button never appears, on every browser, which matches your symptoms exactly and is not a permissions problem.

Check in this order:

Apps in admin.atlassian.com: is the app installed, enabled, and licensed for this site? An expired trial or a subscription in the grace period shows exactly this.
The app's own configuration: some apps restrict macro editing to specific groups; check the app's settings page in Confluence administration.
Only then the Confluence side: page restrictions, and whether the page is a live doc versus a classic page, since editor surfaces differ.

For the native Jira macro: if Edit is missing there too, that points at the site rather than the apps, and support is the right route as Tomislav said. Fazila's question about whether the app is working at all is the fastest way to confirm which case you are in.

I tested that as well. When I click on the "Pivot Table" text, I don't get an Edit button or any macro controls. The behavior remains unchanged, so it appears that the macro cannot be selected for editing from the page.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I don't have access to the Confluence administration settings, so I'm unable to verify the app installation, license status, or app configuration directly.

From my side, I can confirm that:

The Edit option is not available for the affected Chart from Table and Pivot Table macros.
I can still see the Delete option.
Clicking on the Pivot Table text does not display any edit controls.
The behavior is consistent across browsers.

Based on your explanation, this does seem consistent with an app-side issue (such as licensing, app status, or app configuration). I'll ask our Confluence/site administrators to verify the app status

Thanks @Akhila RAMANAN , that confirmation narrows it down, and the no-admin constraint changes what you should do next rather than what the cause is. Two things you can check yourself, then one message to send your admin.

What you can check without admin access:

Open the editor on a page you own and type / followed by "Chart from Table." If the macro does not appear in the insert menu at all, the app is not available to you (disabled, unlicensed, or restricted), and the existing macros on the page are placeholders with no app behind them, which is exactly why Delete works and Edit does not. If it does appear and inserts fresh, the app is alive and the problem is with the existing macro instances on that page, which is a different case.
Check whether the page has restrictions or a page-level app permission by looking at the lock icon at the top; if you can edit the page text but not the macro, restrictions are not the cause.

What to send your admin, in one message: "In Settings, Apps, Manage apps, please check whether the app providing Chart from Table and Pivot Table is installed, enabled, and licensed, and whether its subscription or trial has lapsed. The symptom is that the editor shows Delete but no Edit on these macros for every user." That is a two-minute check for them, and it resolves the app-level branch one way or the other before anyone opens a support ticket.

If step 1 shows the macro missing from the insert menu, you already have your answer and your admin has the fix.
