Regarding extracting document creation logs from Confluence.

ks.hyeon October 23, 2024

Hi All,

We are planning to award the person who created the most content on Confluence at the company’s year-end awards ceremony. Is there a way to extract content creation information from this year? If so, I would appreciate it if you could kindly let me know.

Thanks.

Hi @ks.hyeon

Since you appear to be on Confluence Standard, you'll probably have to use an app or Confluence databases (there's probably a way how to get the data thru API).

You can use Databases to list all pages in a space (here's how) and set it up so it shows what you need to, then filter.

There's a free app Pages Manager by Ricksoft that lists page owner (typically the creator) and Authors (who worked on that individual pages. But there's no Export feature.

Having said that... out of curiosity, what are your criteria for most content? Most pages created? Most words written? Most edits made? Most articles touched?

I'm a writer and 'most content created' is not something I'd take as a benchmark. Back in my days as a journalist, the owner of the startup wanted to 'measure' folks in our newsroom by how many articles/words they wrote. I asked him: Who's better, a junior tasked with churning out 5 articles with numbers and synonyms of up, down, unchanged every half hour, or an analyst working on in-depth analysis the whole day. The junior wins on the 'most content' metric.... And that was the end of the whole 'measuring content debate'.

@Kristian Klima, that's something I hadn't considered. You're an angel. Your suggestions have been very helpful to me. For the awards and to encourage content creation, I was planning to proceed with the number of documents created over specific periods.

Hi @ks.hyeon

In the Confluence Admin section, look for "Monitoring"> Content Created reports> View details. These can provide insights on who created what and when.

Hi @Manoj Gangwar - this probably will not work for becasue Mission Control is a Premium feature and @ks.hyeon specified they're on Standard.

Thank you very much. It turns out there was already a feature for this. This is exactly what I was looking for

@Kristian Klima, you are right. Currently, it’s not available under our pricing policy, so we will need to find another solution.
