From my experience, choosing a tool that integrates smoothly with Jira makes test management much easier. I've recently used Tuskr, and I like that it's simple to set up while still providing the key features needed for managing test cases and executions without making the workflow feel complicated.

What has your experience been? Are you using another solution? I'd love to hear your recommendations and the pros and cons you've found in real projects.

Hi @Vinayak Wagh !

There are different approaches to test case management in Jira, and the right one depends on your team's needs.

  • One option is what you've already tried out - a dedicated test management plugin from the Atlassian Marketplace. Tools like Xray, Zephyr, and QMetry can definitely make your life easier.
  • Another option is to optimize Jira itself for QA. You won't be able to turn Jira into a full-fledged testing platform, but there are certain things you can adjust to make Jira more QA-friendly. For example, this can include creating a dedicated Test Case work type, adding QA-specific custom fields, and setting up tailored workflows.

I covered both approaches in my article How to optimize Jira for QA needs, so maybe it will be useful to you. It also contains a practical section where I describe how we manage tests in Jira in our team, with the help of templates and checklists.

You might also be interested in my step-by-step guide on How to build a Jira test case template like this one:

Jira for testing - smart Templates - Test Case Template .png

This template was created with our solution Smart Templates for Jira. It allows you save a test case structure once and reuse it across your projects. You can also add variables for changing parameters, such as {{feature_name}} or {{project}}. Paired with other adjustments, this can be useful to QA professionals working in Jira.

I hope this information helps!
