Throwback Thursday: what is your favorite road tripping snack? #TBT

It's Thursday!
giphy
Whenever I am driving long/longish distances in America, I get myself a small, empty plastic cup and a bag of sunflower seeds. That's my favorite - actually, maybe not my favorite but my essential. I feel like I always have to have sunflower seeds. I like taking pop corn on the road as well.

Sooooo, what is your favorite road tripping snack or essential on the road for you?
Let’s make it a great Thursday!

P.s. don't eat with 2 hands and drive, like I am attempting there...

Oh @Kristján Geir Mathiesen again, we are so much alike.  The only exception for me was to get a bottle of Pop (ya, in the Midwest of the US, it's Pop.  Hang on .... let me translate.... "bottle of soda" :) ok, back to the question.... ) preferring Mountain Dew over anything AND the bag of the Sunflower Seeds.  Then you empty the bottle, fill a cheek with seeds and you have your empty bottle to put the seeds in.  Easily capped off at rest stops, and then disposed of when it was full.

Sadly, my sunflower seed days are over.  I chipped my front tooth several years ago playing softball ( I know, dangerous sport. I got the guy out at home) and the dentist said no more sunflower seeds.  I have yet to find a suitable replacement.  The Mountain Dew has morphed into a Mtn Dew Zero but no substitution for the seeds.  Peanuts are too dangerous and messy to be shelling in the car.  Sometimes it's a bag of cashews.

Hmmm.   Would popcorn work?  Well, it would be worth a try.  I have a road trip coming up in April, maybe something to try.

I pefer to not eat in car, maybe most estonian road trips are like from Tallinn to Tartu ca 200km or Tallinn to Saaremaa like another ca 200 km or Tallinn to Pärnu ca 135 km.

But when i drive in Italy, Slovenia, Denmark or in another Baltic States i like to have something to drink and mostly not have snack in car. Because there is always change to drop something from mouth or from snack to car and after that you need to clean up this mess.

@Kristjan Geir Mathiesen - Origo these posts are always so much fun!

Confession - I am a road trip foodie - chips, pretzels, nuts (any kind really), trail mix, popcorn, fruit, veggies, and most importantly dark CHOCOLATE. I enjoy road trips of any length and appreciate the variety of foods available on the road. Stopping at small privately owned gas stations along the way may yield yummy locally made baked treats.

Have a great day!

I try to read and respond at the level of this beautifully global community, but I simply can't help sharing with you the best travel companion we Argentinians have—the authentic Mate Argentino, the favorite drink of Leonel Messi.

When you drink mate while traveling, there’s just one rule: you need a co-pilot to prepare and serve it while you drive. So, it's also a great reason not to travel alone!

As an adult, I prefer anything that does not leave crumbs all over my shirt and the car. Cleaning crumbs from the crevices in the console is a pain - and you can never get them all!

So I prefer a bag of Mini Snickers Bars. I allow myself up to four per hour (which is the equivalent of 1.2 normal sized bars). The sugar rush is just enough to keep me going, and the soft chewy and gooey taste is perfect for listening to the road pass underneath the wheels. Pair that with a decaf black coffee from anywhere (Dunkin preferred) or a Venti Skinny Vanilla Latte from Starbucks and I'm satiated and hydrated for the trip!

I do ALL of the driving in our family, so these are essentials for the road trips. Happy Dad/Husband = Happy Kids/Wife (who are all usually sleeping while I need to keep my attention on the road ahead).

See you next week @Kristján Geir Mathiesen

Pringles (or an equivalent), water, energy drink.

Don't judge me, Pringles' tube fits into a cupholder :D

I don't drive that long distances anymore - everything is under 3 hours and I also prefer not to eat while I'm driving. However, when we were kids, I remember my dad making us sandwiches for longer road trips. These were absolutely amazing (I guess they were pretty much the same compared to those we would eat at home, but eating in the car or at some rest stop made these so much tastier) and I just couldn't wait until I opened the first one 😆😋 For a few years now, I've almost completely ditched standard snacks and I only eat those when there are some major sports events together with a beer or 2 😅

On long road trips, I always stop for meals, so I don't need something in the car because I'm hungry—I need something to help me keep awake. 😴😁

I find that lifesavers candies work well for this, with the added benefit of countering a dry mouth. Peppermint ones work best for waking me up, but they give me heartburn if I have too many. I try to get one of the bags with 5 fruit flavors for variety.

I generally drink water, but occasionally I'll get a soda. I'm not a fan of trying to drink a hot beverage while I drive.

Candy orange slices (ubiquitous in US gas stations) and hot coffee. :)

For me it is usually something to drink - either sweet iced tea or a soft drink. And to eat - something that is easy to eat with my fingers, like chips or the equivalent. For some reason, I prefer salty things vs. sweet things will on a road trip.

Hello

Well, I always carry a 2-liter bottle of water, sandwiches for everyone, and the favorite snacks are Doritos and popcorn, as well as Oreo chocolate cookies.

Regards

Thanks for all your replies. Personally, I don't like to have too much of drinks in the car when I drive because then I have to stop, no too much afterward, to go to the bathroom...
