Ok, this is not a crazy story, more of a sad story. About 15 years ago, my mom was able to purchase a nice pair of slacks that some officers use in Iceland. They were suppose to be really good, long lasting, and all that. I got the pair. Went to get them hemmed (shortened because I am in economy size). Was pretty stoked with these fancy new pants. Decided to wear them over the holidays. Well, in Iceland we dress up fancy for the dinner on Dec 31st. Then later that night, we blow away the passing year and welcome the new year with fireworks. Sometimes, fireworks and sparklers have a mind of their own. Well, one of the sparklers fell on my pant leg and burned a fairly good size hole in it. So much for them fancy pair of trousers...  Never wore them again :(

Here is an old picture of me and my older brother from new year's in late 70's or early 80's.
So, what is your craziest/funniest/ghastliest/bestest new year's eve experience?
Let’s make it a great Thursday!

Thanks for sharing your #TBT @Kristján Geir Mathiesen!

I can't seem to find any old pictures of New Year's Eve and to be honest, I don't have many memories of those as a kid either.

Looking at the more recent photos, it's mostly diner at home with family or friends.

So, New Year's Eve is usually a quiet thing with a small group of friends.

But there was one year...

I visited my brother who lived in New York City around the holidays one year.  Of course, we had to make our way to Times Square to see the ball drop on New Year's Eve.

We braved a bit of the cold and were with crowds of people.  It was fantastic.  The streets were cleared out in an hour.

As you probably know new years in Iceland can get pretty mad and I think the maddest was last year when people were allowed to go outside again after Covid. Me and the kid tried to take a stroll through the neighbourhood and very quickly ran back home because it was like a bloody warzone. The explosions and the smoke and all of it just made me sick. I didn't even like fireworks before, don't like them any more now. But we're gonna have a friend over for new years eve so maybe I'll be able to pretend I don't want to go hide under the sofa. 😅

Late to this after being off last week. It's been a long time since I've had a wild or crazy NYE, but I'm grateful for our quieter celebrations now. My favorites include our family friends, good food and desserts, laughs and games.

Thanks for sharing your story @Kristján Geir Mathiesen

I typically spent NYE with any of my family that is still around, but this year my boyfriend and I went to a nice dinner and celebrated a year past and another year starting. On our way home, which was about a 30 mile drive there was tons of smoke and when we got home people in the neighborhood were setting off fireworks and it continued until about 2:00 in the morning. I thought my cat was going to have a heart attack. Needless to say, I don't really like NYE too much! Christmas and Christmas Eve are more of my thing!

Thanks @Kristján Geir Mathiesen for sharing the story,

Let me tell you my new year eve of 2013,

First I brought cake, driving(on my scootor) to my party place, I had to apply suddent brake not to hit bicycle man -- my cake dropped from my scooty and spoiled.

Then I buyed a new cake at the party place, it dropped from my hand's when I was placing it on the table, all my friends saw me with red eyes,

Then I buyed new cake, we cut the cake, but suddenly one of my friend fallen on the table and there was no cake to us for new year.

but all was funny only.
