Friday Fun: afterwork video games!

Hello Atlassian Community and happy Friday to all!

Today I would like to ask the community about one of my favorite hobbies: video games!

Back in 2018, we managed to hold the first (and only for now) Deiser Mario Kart Tournament. We created rules and an amazing bracket. Ten co-workers participated, and the rest of the teammates watched as one of them raised a Champion! That was me and I'm still the reigning champion! We had a blast playing one of the best racing games ever!

H2x1_NSwitch_MarioKart8Deluxe_image1600w.jpg

A few years later, one of our teammates waited until it was Friday to showcase his latest creation: JIRA QUEST! (you can see more about it right here: https://youtu.be/6L4dBWkFjAM - and if you'd like to test it out, just ping me). This took me by surprise and can stop thinking about a potential new story. With a few automation and workflow conditions, Luis Lobo (one of our most experienced teammates) managed to create a cool RPG in Jira. Needless to say that every video game enthusiast in the company started testing JIRA QUEST out and posting their results on our common channel. This was another Friday that video games made Fun!

Now, I have a few questions for you all!

- Are you a video game fan? Name your top 3!! (Not easy, I know. But there's always a top 3)

- Have you ever played an after-work video game with your teammates? Which one?

- Have you seen/played/created anything like Jira Quest in Jira? Was it fun?

I'll be looking forward to reading your answers!!

Have an amazing weekend!!

  • Are you a video game fan? Name your top 3!! (Not easy, I know. But there's always a top 3)
    • That's really a hard choice, I'll pick Dragon's Dogma, Elden Ring and Monster Hunter:World, which gave me some really impressive adventures.
  • Have you ever played an after-work video game with your teammates? Which one?
    • Monster Hunter Rise
  • Have you seen/played/created anything like Jira Quest in Jira? Was it fun?
    • I've never seen what a Jira Quest is🤔, a Jira Software game? I'll try to get to know it.

Great topic! I also like video games, but I rarely have time to actually play.

However, I just finished Super Mario Odyssey on the Switch with my son, which was great fun. I also currently play Zelda Breath Of The Wild also on Switch, but as I said rarely.

Furthermore, I have a soft spot for retro consoles and handhelds. I have a NES, SNES and various Game Boys that I have cleaned, restored and enhanced with modern displays (for the Game Boys) and so on. I even got myself an old school CRT television set to experience games on these consoles the way it was meant to be. 😄

In terms of playing with team mates, I haven't. But we do have a Playstation 5 in our office, which I know colleagues are using from time to time. I'm just not there very much since I work remotely.

I looooove old video games. My fav is Rolley Coaster Tycoon, Jazz Jackrabbit, and Train. But now after I got a Nintendo switch I also started playing Ori - so beautiful!

We're usually playing Amongst us at work and it's a great teambuilding game, so much fun to try to figure out who is an imposter 😅

O-M-G, Jazz Jackrabbit! 🤩

I'm having a massive childhood flashback right now! That soundtrack was just epic back then! 😅

And I just realized that there was a version for the Game Boy Advance. I have to get that! 😍

my first during (at lunch time) and after work game was XTank. it was the bomb back when we were just getting cool UI on workstations.

moved to DOOM after work at a wireless carrier in Atlanta, after hours, across the company LAN.

Doom (1993 video game) - Wikipedia

then moved to descent when i was home based

Descent Gameplay - Video Game History Month 2014 - YouTube

then it is all a blur after that.

currently, it is a good book or reading news (from varied sources/countries) or giving my doggos ear rubs (but usually the doggos win regardless of what i choose).

Oh my gosh.  The First Person classic Doom and Doom 2 became an instant afterwork classic.  We all chipped in so we could get software licenses so we could have 4 people exploring this wonderful game.  We even stayed after work one Friday night to finish the game (we were there until 2AM).

Someone on our team even had a network setup at home, so we'd go there on a Saturday morning and play all the latest network games.

Back then, the top 3 would be Doom, Doom 2, and World of Warcraft.

Today, I'm playing World of Warships.

I cannot contribute much to this thread as I am not a video game fan. I've never been good at them so I really never picked it up. I remember when I was young my father bought us an Atari and I loved playing that, but never been too much into video games in my adult life. I prefer silly games on my phone to large console video games,

My top 3 games:

World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft - "Wrath of the Lich King Theme" (), burning crusade, wotlk, HD wallpaper | Peakpx

I've started playing WoW with Burning Crusade and loved it! I lost some interest with Draenor but got back into the game with Battle for Azeroth and I'm active since than.
And like @Ollie Guan I'm also 'For The Horde!'

Doom

DOOM (1993) | Download and Buy Today - Epic Games Store

This was one of my first games and is the reason why I love the genre so much. It's cult and I still play it from time to time!

Red Dead Redemption 2

The Making of Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption 2

The story got me hooked and the endless possibilities you can do in this game are just crazy and super fun. I spend a lot of time in this game and I hope there is a third one coming!

Have you ever played an after-work video game with your teammates?

Yes, with a colleague I'm playing Sea of Thieves from time to time and we're having a lot of fun sailing around the map and looting some treasures.

Sea of Thieves: Eine zehnjährige Reise beginnt mit einer dee

And on our team-week (the company comes together once a quarter) we have one evening playing games, which is a lot of fun.

I do not play but my husband did. His game of choice was Call of Duty. And early on Zelda. I used to watch him play. Matter of fact, I watch him play Zelda until he won the game.

- Have you ever played an after-work video game with your teammates? Which one?

No but I watched them play.

- Have you seen/played/created anything like Jira Quest in Jira? Was it fun?

No, you have me intrigued.

Ok first, @Fede Baronti -Deiser- this is a wonderful topic and thank you for sharing "Jira Quest"!  While I haven't played that specifically, I have played other text adventure games and they were a ton of fun.

@Ollie Guan - I was right there with you until Thrall left the horde and then I left as well.

@Nikki Zavadska [Appfire] - I agree with @Andreas Springer {Actonic} flashbacks to my childhood, Jazz Jackrabbit was AWESOME!!

Ok onto the questions at hand:

Are you a video game fan? Name your top 3

You bet I'm a fan!  I even stream video games on Twitch for charity ;)
Top 3?  I refuse to give you games, I don't want to think that hard, but I'll give you my top three franchises:

Have you ever played an after-work video game with your teammates? Which one?

Yes, I worked in customer support and at the end of our day (8pm) local time we would use the projector in one of the meeting rooms to play with 4 player competitive or 2 player co-op Call of Duty (specifically MW2).

Have you seen/played/created anything like Jira Quest in Jira? Was it fun?

Yes, and now that I have watched the video, I'm intrigued to make something similar and to try and expand on it (I'm trying to think of a way to add experience points, levels and an inventory).

Have a great weekend everyone!

Love this post.

- Are you a video game fan? Name your top 3!!

  • Fortnite (don't judge me, I started playing with my kids and kept playing cause I was pretty good at it)
  • Call of Duty
  • No Man's Sky

- Have you ever played an after-work video game with your teammates? Which one?

  • Unfortunately no one on my direct team play the same type of games I do and the rest of the department has a video game dads group and this mom gets left out.

- Have you seen/played/created anything like Jira Quest in Jira? Was it fun?

  • I have never.

    • Oof, difficult question.  Lets go with Doom (classic series), Wipeout (series), Diablo 2
  • Have you ever played an after-work video game with your teammates? Which one?
    • Child of the 80's, more of a solo player.  I've played various things in multiplayer but never really got into it.
  • Have you seen/played/created anything like Jira Quest in Jira? Was it fun?
    • Never tried but curious.

What an amazing topic @Fede Baronti -Deiser-  ! =)

Are you a video game fan? Name your top 3!!

Yes I am! :D My all-time favorite video games are:

  1. Heroes of Might and Magic 3
    1. I still play this nostalgic masterpiece until today. The strategic depth, varied factions, exploration of unknown territories and epic battles remain as engaging as they were in 1999. A dedicated community provides modded versions and new maps until today, which is just awesome. The atmosphere of the game is enchanting through its hand-painted, fantasy-inspired visuals and the outstanding soundtracks. I could go on and on, but I'd like to give the other games a spotlight, too. :D
  2. Day Z
    • DayZ is one of my favorite games due to its unparalleled realism and immersion in a post-apocalyptic world where every choice matters. Its expansive open-world environment, filled with challenges and dynamic weather, provides endless opportunities for exploration. Rule number 1: Never get too attracted to your gear, you will lose it sooner or later. :)
  3.  Diablo II
    • I love playing Diablo 2 for its unparalleled sense of progression and satisfaction. The constant pursuit of more powerful gear and the gradual development of my character's abilities keep me engaged and motivated. Additionally, the cooperative multiplayer aspect adds a social dimension, making it a fantastic game to enjoy with friends while battling the forces of evil together.
  4. The Secret of Monkey Island
    • I know it's four, but it had to be on the list. I adore playing Monkey Island for its witty humor and clever puzzles, which consistently make me laugh while challenging my problem-solving skills. The charismatic protagonist, Guybrush Threepwood, is a lovable bumbling pirate who adds a unique charm to the game, and the quirky cast of characters and memorable dialogues make every interaction enjoyable.

Have you ever played an after-work video game with your teammates? Which one?

We play FIFA on PlayStation 5 during our office breaks now and then. The friendly competition on the virtual pitch has brought us all closer together. We are currently also organizing our second championship, where the winner walks away with a homemade trophy. This definitely adds a fun sense of rivalry and achievement to our office routine. :)

Have you seen/played/created anything like Jira Quest in Jira? Was it fun?

No, I haven't seen anything like it before. I'll certainly check it out, it looks really fun! Thank you for sharing! :)

I'm a big fan. The game I enjoyed the most is Witcher 3. I also like Assasin's Creed series, especially the games with Ezio Auditore de La La La :-).

If I have some time for games again (I haven't played anything last 18 months), I would like to try Red Dead Redemption 2.

I head out to find a pinball machine for a little after work flipper action.  It's not a video game, but it's still relaxing.
