Community groups are getting a glow-up!
Starting this week, we are rolling out some updates to the community group experience. Thank you to all our group members, community leaders, and focus group participants who offered feedback along the way! Below is an overview of groups, along with a rundown of some of the upcoming changes.
What are groups? Groups are micro-communities organized around something its members have in common, and are designed to foster meaningful connections between users, insightful discussions, and peer-to-peer learning. They are run by Group Leaders, in partnership with the Atlassian team. You can browse our group directory here.
New: All content types are now supported in groups
Groups will now have questions and articles enabled in their groups, in addition to discussions. This will support an expanded set of use cases for groups!
New: Guidelines, recognition, and support for Group Leaders
Group Leaders will now be highlighted in the sidebar of every group:
In addition, Group Leaders will receive a unique badge on their profile along with special swag.
We are also refreshing the Group Leader guidelines to foster more content from Atlassian, monthly discussion topics, new user welcomes, and other initiatives.
We also have groups available for adoption if you are interested in becoming a Group Leader! Reach out to communitymanagers@atlassian.com if this interests you.
Updated: Improved group categorization
We have recategorized our groups into the following:
Featured Groups: for general interest topics such as the Welcome Center
Industry Groups: for conversations centered around specific industries
Language Groups: currently supporting conversations in Spanish and Italian
Community Events: regional groups connected to ACE chapters around the world
Product Feedback Groups: groups that allow users to co-create products with the Atlassian team
You can browse our group directory here.
Upcoming: What’s next?
We are working on a redesigned look and feel for groups to help set these unique community spaces apart. We will also be adding functionality that will make it easier to navigate, engage, and share content in groups. Plus, we're migrating some collections to groups where it makes sense to do so. Keep an eye on our community release notes to be notified of new changes and improvements.
Of course, we are always open to further suggestions and feedback! You should see these changes start to roll out on Wednesday, and we’d love to hear what you think in the comments below.
