Darshan Hiranandani : Issues with New Editor Syntax – Can't Use Quotes as Headers & Other Problems

Darshan Hiranandani January 12, 2025

Hi everyone,

I’m Darshan Hiranandani, finding it really frustrating with some of the recent changes made to the editor, especially regarding syntax. For example, I used to be able to format quoted text as headers (e.g., Header 2), but now that’s no longer possible, and it seems like quotes are locked into a specific format. Why the sudden restriction? It was much more flexible before!

Additionally, I don’t understand why the old line break syntax (---) was changed. Was it not simple and clear enough? It just feels like some of these changes are making things unnecessarily difficult.

Has anyone else encountered similar issues or have any insights into why these changes were made? Any suggestions on how to work around them?

Thanks for your help!

Regards

Darshan Hiranandani

Hello @Darshan Hiranandani

The new Confluence editor has stricter formatting rules, including locking quoted text into a specific format.

This change was likely implemented for consistency, but it does limit flexibility. A workaround could be to avoid using the quote feature and manually style the text as a header.

While not ideal, it achieves the desired visual hierarchy.

Regarding changes to the line break syntax (---), it seems Atlassian is aligning with modern markdown standards.
