Can't find reference ID for idShort

Taylor Reding May 6, 2024

I have scoured everything I can search for to find this stupid thing and I am at my wit's end.

I am trying to set up automation so that the idShort number is included in the subject line of an email notification and nothing I have tried will work.

Is there reference ID documentation somewhere that isn't only for the API? When I search for "cardname" that's used in the example of {cardname}, it doesn't exist in any of the documentation which means I'm looking in the wrong place.

Please help.

Hi @Taylor Reding

Short ID as referenced in API doc is {cardid} in Trello automation. This is truly unique

What you have found is {cardnumber}, which is just a rolling number identifying that it is the x number card created on the board...So if it is the 10th card created on the board, it would have a card number of 10

It is a rolling increment, which is cool

The drawback - it is not unique. If you transfer cards to another board you could have duplicates

For this instance I'm trying to match a simple ticket number shown by running Reenhance which shows the cardnumber value and not idShort.

I now realize that when trying to find, what I now know are referred to as "Automation Valiables", somewhere I got idShort and what I was looking for entangled which led me on a nearly unsolvable goose chase.

I finally just started searching for {} references until I found the official Trello page about the variables.

I finally found it as {cardnumber}.

All this time I've been looking for ID or short and it was neither.
