Can't add repo: Unable to set owner as parent is not visible or non-existent

Toby Murray May 15, 2018

Version 2.5.5.0 on Windows 10

With many repositories in SourceTree, one day it stopped working. I uninstalled/cleared all data and reinstalled, and I'm now consistently unable to add one repository (a different clone of the same repository works).

Following other discussions, I've tried adding:

<setting name="AutomaticallyCleanUpDictionaryFiles" serializeAs="String">
     <value>True</value>
</setting>

But it had no effect. Log shows:

ERROR [2018-05-08 17:23:28,137] [1] [SourceTree.Notifications.NotificationsManager] [ShowNotificationDialog] - Unable to set owner as parent is not visible or non-existent
ERROR [2018-05-14 14:35:05,641] [1] [SourceTree.Analytics.Crash.BugSplat.CrashAnalyticsService] [DispatcherUnhandledExceptionHandler] - DispatcherUnhandledExceptionHandler for [Sourcetree, 2.5.5.0] called with [System.Windows.Threading.Dispatcher, System.Windows.Threading.DispatcherUnhandledExceptionEventArgs]

Hello! Looks like a file got corrupted in your repo. Try deleting:

{YOUR REPO}\.git\sourcetreeconfig.json

Worked for me, thanks!
