Table referenced via include or excerpt include macro appears as WIKI markup

I have a table on a page defined using WIKI markup.

However, when I reference the table via the include or excerpt-include macro it not rendered and the WIKI markup is displayed.

How can I get a table to render that is referenced via an include macro?

Addendum to my original posting...

The table renders OK with excerpt include if it is not included under an excerpt macro...

Example:

{excerpt-include:page with table}  -- table renders OK

{excerpt}
{excerpt-include:page with table} -- table renders as WIKI markup
{excerpt}
