Interfacing Jira to SAP

Yasso November 18, 2013

Dear all,

we use tempo and jira for project planning and controlling. We need to connect all billing information from our internal system (jira/ tempo) to our finance (SAP-based) system. Are there any existing Plug-Ins/ Add-Ons that you can recommend for this task or would we have to implement our own solution which communicates between the Jira API and SAP? Please advice.

thanks & cheers

Hi Lillith,

At the moment there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution for integrating JIRA and SAP, so generally most customers are implementing their own solutions that communicate between SAP and the JIRA API as you have suggested. There are a number of Atlassian Experts who can assist you in configuring a solution if you don't feel you have the necessary expertise, for example I know that TM Software, (developers of Tempo), have a lot of experience with this kind of integration but each configuration is different and that is why there isn't currently an addon that will allow that kind of integration. However, it can be done and you just need to consider how you require the integration to be configured.

All the best,
John

Probably your own solution - I'm not aware of any plugins that do much that would help you here. Especially with the Tempo side, I've only ever seen questions about core Jira and SAP before.

Two previous postings have a LOT of detail though:

We have created a mechanism where our PMs drop their export files from Tempo into a folder.  A job in SAP pick these up and process them and post them.  Simple...

Does anything changed since 2013 when we talked about an JIRA API and SAP?

Not much, there's still nothing other than bespoke stuff done by partners, although typing SAP into the marketplace gets you a couple of things to check out.

I had done the same before. We were used SOAP.

SOAP is deprecated though, so you'll want to do it with REST...
