Can we have traceability from requirement to design and code in Jira?

Shivani October 2, 2021

In end to end traceability we also need traceability from requirements to design and code. Can we do this in Jira? Thanks

Hi Shivani,

Traceability and visibility are Jira superpowers. As mentioned before, there are several apps that can help you improve this experience.

I personally like the traceability report from Xray ( Test Management), to understand Story > Test (Case) > Test Executions > Test Run > Defects relation.

Hi @Shivani ,

For more details, you have this end-to-end perspective  :

and this very interesting page: Tools for each phase of DevOps lifecycle

With compatible tools, you can have full traceability, dashboards, etc.

Hi Shivani,

Yes definitely. Let me try to summarise it.

  • Use Confluence for capturing ideas, brainstorming, requirement management
  • There are various plugins to manage your designs in Confluence
  • Create issues (initiative, features, stories) in Jira
  • Use Github or Bitbucket integrated with Jira
  • Jira Issue can be linked to commits, branches and integrated with PRs
  • Optionally you can use test management apps in Jira like Zephyr
  • You can use Structure to view all of the above in a nice board, starting with your initiatives in Confluence

This is of course just to give you a short answer which is yes but you need to work on what exactly you are looking for from Atlassian tools.

I hope it helped.

Ravi
