Issue Reordering in Structure in Jira Cloud

Melissa Thornton July 21, 2021

I get the error 'Issue Reordering is Not Supported' when attempting to re-order issues within an epic on my structure board.

Is there a way to re-order them on the Structure board or with the epic which would automatically reorder them on the structure board.

Hello Melissa,

When a structure is built with generators, any manually made action in it should be supported by the existing generators, i.e. it is not possible to do anything that contradicts the rule by which the structure is built. The reported message appears because there are no generators in your structure that can support a different order of issues.

Rearranging of issues is possible with Sort generators - these generators allow to order issues on each hierarchy level of the structure according to a certain field value. Also, you can sort issues by Rank and be able to additionally rearranging them manually(with their Ranks updating in Jira as a result). You can find out more about Sort generators on our wiki: https://wiki.almworks.com/display/strcloud/Field+Sorter

I hope this helps. If you need further assistance with anything, please feel free to contact us directly at support.almworks.com for proper support.

@Stepan Kholodov _ALM Works_  I have the same problem.
I used to be able to re-sort issues on JIRA server and cannot do that anymore.

My structure is build up with the following:

and the main parent ticket has been added manually with Search and add function.
I do not understand your explanations above or why my structure cannot be re-arranged.
Could you please revert?

Hello @Clement R

By default, in structures with generators it's not possible to reorder issues manually. it's the same behavior in Structure for Server/Data Center as well. To be able to reorder issues added by a generator, there has to be an additional rule/functionality added that can support this action.

In Structure Cloud, it can be done with the Sort by Rank generator. Please make sure that the 'Moving items in the structure will update ranks' option in its configuration is enabled - it should help. You can see the configuration by double-clicking on the generator at the top of the structure.

If you need further assistance, please reach out to us directly at our support portal and we'll get back to you shortly.

Best regards,

Hello,

Yes, the option is activated as you can see below.
Yet, moving tickets gives an error message.
Can you please create a bug ticket then?

@Stepan Kholodov _Tempo_ any news on this issue?

Sorting by rank in the generator was enough in the JIRA server version to be able to re-sort ticket in the structure manually, updating their rank (which was in my case a hidden column).

Hello @Clement R

If:
- the Rank sorter is added to a structure;
- the 'Moving items in the structure will update ranks' option is enabled in its configuration;
- it is set to work on appropriate hierarchy levels;
- and you move an issue within its current hierarchy level (it's not possible to move it to a different level)

and if you get some sort of an error - then there might be something wrong; it is not the expected behavior. Please submit a support request at our portal and we will investigate what's going on on your instance.

Best regards,
Stepan
